Four hundred years ago, a ship named Halve Maen (Half Moon) set sail from the city of Amsterdam in Holland. With a Dutch and English crew and an English captain by the name of Henry Hudson, the Halve Maen was trying to find a northeast passage to China. In 1609, the ship hit unknown land. The crew and captain started to investigate the new world. Over the next decade, the settlement Nieuw Amsterdam (New Amsterdam) was built, later growing into the modern metropolis known as New York City.
Little did they know Henry Hudson had set sail for the future land of the Dutch Moon Cookies!
